Rebuild Cont.
June 1, 2011
Got the motor on the kitchen table (yes, my roomates are very happy about that) and started tearing it apart. After cleaning off thirty some odd years of dried oil, dust, and debris – it actually looks pretty good. I took the starter motor off the top of the engine and took it into autozone to have it tested. Worked great on 12 volt but not at all on 6 volts, this is a problem because the bike originally came from the factory with a 6volt electrical system. I knew the wiring would be a problem but I didn’t know the extent of it until I found this out.
After taking everything apart, cleaning the carbs and everything I’m surprised at how clean everything on the inside is. Doesn’t look like anyone has ever ripped the motor down this far and the piston (about the diameter of a Gatorade bottle cap) and rings look almost new. Just need to find a gasket kit to order and look into putting it back together so I can focus on the wiring.
Next step clean out the gas tank and get her ready for clean fuel!

Have to start somewhere…
May 25, 2011
Every project has to start somewhere, for me it started in my parents garage. Under at least 7 years of dust and junk, the old C70 sat, waiting for some attention. After first pulling it out I am more hopeful than I was last time I saw this bike. It’s mostly compete and has compression. While it’s not the prettiest thing on the block I’ll get it running first *fingers crossed* then worry about aesthetics. So here she is, in all her glory!
